Student Recognition - One of our middle school targets this year is to purposefully recognize our students in many ways. With nearly 440 students at CMS, I want each student to realize that their presence and engagement makes a difference in our school, its climate, and its character. Student of the Month recognizes individuals for a wide variety of accomplishments. Each nominee for a student of the month award is recognized by a specific teacher with a statement from that teacher highlighting his or her contribution to the school community. In the first three months, we’ve had the opportunity to meaningfully recognize 84 students based on individual merits.
As we’ve worked to focus on areas of our building culture, we continue with Cougar Character awards. These quarterly awards serve to highlight students who stand out in exhibiting Outstanding Leadership, Outstanding Respect, Outstanding Responsibility, and Outstanding Engagement. This four areas align with focal areas within our school behavior structure.
Family Night - We want to invite the community to join us on Thursday, March 12 for Family Night. From 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., each grade level will highlight a Student Learning Showcase. Students will have the opportunity to show off some of the great learning they are doing every day. At 7:30 p.m., following the Student Learning Showcase, families are invited to join us for a student vs. faculty basketball game, pitting a select team of 8th graders against the CMS Staff’s most fearsome competitors. Admission to the game is free.
