Chromebooks: Devices and chargers were sent home with all students on Friday, September 3. Students who are currently home without devices, may pick those up at the school office starting at 7:00 AM on Tuesday morning, September 7.

Structured day: To ensure the best possible continuity of instruction, CMS will use a condensed daily schedule that mirrors students’ regular school schedule. This structure is designed to support families in planning the day, communicating expectations to caregivers who may be assisting students with online learning, and helping students stay on track.

Class time and break time: This schedule expects 30 minutes of dedicated time per class each day, including specials classes, with a 15-minute break between classes to stretch and prepare for the next subject.

Video and video-conferencing: Instruction will include teacher video content, both live and recorded, to provide students with more direct instruction opportunities.

Attendance: Per Ohio law, daily student attendance is expected. Participation in the regularly scheduled classes is the primary way students will show attendance. Absences from learning due to illness or other reason must be reported to the school office on the day of the absence.

Alternate Attendance Situations: It is understood that some students may be unable to access their online school work during the day. In these cases, families will need to contact the school or the child’s teachers to ensure that we can account for the student’s attendance and make needed accommodations. The regular schedule will always be the best option for supporting student learning where possible.

Basic Schedule: 30-minute daily instructional blocks with 15 minutes between

Canvas Access: Canvas will be an essential communication platform throughout the year for both remote and face-to-face learning.

Students should access Canvas through the link on CMS Student Resources Page of the Crestview website. This is the default page on their school-issued Chromebooks.

Parents may access Canvas from the "Parent Links" menu on the Crestview site. If you are in need of a pairing code to connect with your student's Canvas account, these links may be helpful.

We've been working to ensure our students all have the opportunity to participate in two key field experiences: Outdoor Education, and 7th/8th Grade Trip to Washington DC. We wanted to make sure no one misses out, while also weighing the uncertainty that COVID presents as we look ahead into spring.

6th grade Outdoor Education: Arrangements and dates are not finalized, but we have been given the greenlight to work on getting both 6th and 7th grades to Outdoor Ed this spring. This will allow last year's group to experience the trip they missed last spring.

Washington DC: This year's DC trip for Classes of 2025 (8th grade) and 2026 (7th grade will be postponed to the Spring of 2022. We are partnering with the high school staff to help us make this happen as these students would attend as 8th graders and Freshmen.

The DC trip for the Classes of 2027 (current 6th) and 2028 (current 5th) would occur in spring of 2023, back on our typical rotation.

These two trips are very different in several ways (closed campus vs open city, local vs distant should a student become ill, and single vendor vs multiple contracts/ticket purchases). These factors were a significant consideration in choosing to move forward with one while postponing the other.

While the delay is disappointing, I hope that it will bring more certainty to planning and overall student safety. Thank you.

Mark your calendar for Thursday, May 28th, when we will hold livestream Year-End Awards Ceremonies for each of our grade levels. These presentations will be archived online after the events as well for families who can’t view the live event. youtube.com/user/cmsvidpro

GRADE 8 - 1:30 PM

As we draw to the conclusion of a very eventful school year, Crestview Middle School would like to thank our parents and community members for the tremendous support you have shown throughout the year, and especially this spring.

Despite the difficulties presented by the spring stay-at-home order and the disruption to instruction, we had the exceptional opportunity to grow and stretch as learners and teachers. I look forward to our hopeful return in fall and we have already begun conversations about how the lessons of this spring can be brought forward to further improve daily instruction, regardless of its context.

As always, I want to encourage all of our Cougar families to take advantage of summer break to explore new learning opportunities! Summer is a great time to explore the outdoors, pursue hobbies, take on projects that are engaging and challenging, and read the things that you find most interesting! Never stop learning!

Stay safe! We can’t wait to see you all soon.

A few notes for the second half of the week

Again we want to thank you for your continued support throughout this transition. I have nothing but positive to say about our interactions with Crestview families this week!

Online Assignments
If at all possible, I want to strongly encourage families to take advantage of the online instruction our teachers are preparing as the primarily method of instructional delivery. This promises to be the most educationally rich option for our students as we move forward.

Assignments for online instruction have been posted on our Student Resources page at crestviewschools.net. Each grade level’s materials are linked from there. Google Classroom is the common base camp for most grade levels and courses. Most students are familiar with this tool.

Print-based Assignments
We are making print assignments available for those students who absolutely cannot access the online materials. If your child work -off-line and did not receive a paper packet before departing school, those will be available tomorrow (Wednesday) from 11:00-1:00 at the middle school entrance. Updated packets will be available weekly on Mondays from 11:00-1:00. If you cannot pick up a pack during this time, contact Mr. Lemon.

Food Distribution
Plans for food distribution are nearly complete and will be out soon. You should have received a text and email asking you to complete a quick survey about food support needs this afternoon. Your feedback is critical.
